A pet carrier occupies a defined space that cannot be treated as spare room around the suitcases. Families travelling from Zurich Airport to Davos should provide the complete animal and carrier information before choosing a vehicle. This is especially important when the party also brings winter equipment. A vehicle’s passenger capacity alone says very little about whether the full combination can be accommodated appropriately.

Describe each animal and each carrier

State the number and type of animals, the number of carriers and the external dimensions of every carrier. Include handles, wheels and projecting parts in the measurements. Explain whether the carrier is rigid or soft, but do not assume a soft container can be compressed to fit. The transfer team needs a realistic picture of the packed load and the proposed arrangement before accepting the journey.

Keep airline approval separate

The airline and the road-transfer provider make separate decisions about transport. Check the carrier’s current animal-travel requirements and any applicable journey documents directly with the responsible organisations. Zurich Airport directs travellers to airline and official animal-travel information; its guidance is a starting point for the airport stage. A transfer confirmation does not replace airline approval, border formalities or an assessment of the animal’s individual travel needs.

When more than one household brings an animal, identify which carrier belongs with which traveller. Keep the carrier assignment unchanged during loading unless a revised arrangement has been agreed. This helps the group account for every animal and its accompanying equipment at the destination.

Include every other item in the load

Once a large carrier is listed, it is tempting to summarise everything else as ordinary luggage. Instead, list suitcases, cabin bags, skis, strollers and any mobility equipment individually. If several animals travel, show their carrier dimensions separately. The team may need to review more than one vehicle or another arrangement. Do not rely on moving an animal into an unapproved position or removing its carrier at pickup to make the planned car appear suitable.

Arrange the meeting and any stop

After landing, keep dispatch informed if the animal handover or another airport process takes longer than expected. Agree a practical meeting stage once the whole party and all equipment are ready. If a comfort stop is needed, request it in advance and discuss its effect on the journey. The driver must use a suitable lawful stopping place; the transfer is not a substitute for veterinary advice about an individual animal’s needs.

Reconfirm the return load

Pets may return with different family members or with equipment purchased during the stay. Confirm who travels with each animal and whether the carrier dimensions or bag count have changed. Keep documents and essentials accessible without opening the main luggage load at the roadside. Ask Airportcab to quote the precise arrangement and retain the written acceptance, so the airport departure is based on a reviewed plan rather than a general assumption that pets are always carried.
